Treasury IG: IRS gave ICE addresses for nearly 47,000 people

verifiedcarried forward

TIGTA Report No. 2026-IE-R010, "The IRS Provided Addresses for Nearly 47,000 Persons to Immigration and Customs Enforcement." ICE requested address data for over 1.2 million records in June 2025; the IRS matching process failed to catch all invalid matches among the roughly 47,000 records it released (the IRS's own later estimate: under 5% had incomplete or insufficient address information). TIGTA found ICE had not met required data-safeguarding standards before the sharing agreement was signed. No formal recommendations; TIGTA said it would raise the safeguarding findings with the DHS Office of Inspector General.
